Multi-Family (Adolescent) DBT Skills Group
Skills group is an essential component of DBT, where you will learn the tools to help build a life worth living. Research shows that teaching both the adolescent and parents the same skills creates powerful change.
Parents and teens will be assigned homework and will be expected to practice between sessions. During the first half of the group, parents and adolescents will review homework separately. In the second half, all group members will reunite for classroom-style instruction where everyone will be taught four skills modules:
Mindfulness
Emotion Regulation
Interpersonal Effectiveness
Distress Tolerance
At GTG we offer a Tuesday skills group taught by Lynn Elwood and Lauren Matthews. A 6-month commitment is required so that group members can complete all modules sequentially. An adolescent, 13-18 years old, must be accompanied by one parent and both commit to weekly attendance. We encourage all parents to attend. In addition, the adolescent must meet individually with a DBT therapist.
